"Pineapple Express" Breaks Records, Accidentally Terrorists?
This week's big movie news is all about “Pineapple Express” opening with a large Wednesday August box office total at $12.15 million – but the real story is the tone of shock at the news from both Hollywood execs and entertainment reporters. Hi, did you all really not realize this summer has been a total comedy graveyard of flops (“Get Smart”, “Zohan”, “Step Brothers” and “Love Guru” I'm looking in your direction) that have made 'Pineapple” all the more anticipated?
Something that might have tipped them off is the amazing rise in interest around the M.I.A. track that's featured in the “Pineapple” trailer. With nothing at all going on except placement in the movie trailer the track has shot up in digital sales and radio play – a stunning 8+ months after it's initial release as a single. So, of course, all the interest in this track lead to a interesting q&a session from E! Online's Answer Bitch (yes, really) in which an alleged reader wrote in to inquire about M.I.A.'s terrorist leanings (of which there really are none, other than perhaps some fashion nods for artistic effect).
Between “Pineapple's” pro-drug message and M.I.A.'s terrorist history this is either the most American or least American movie of the summer. Right?
